The performance video realised by Tayfun Serttaş in 2005, The Other The Other and Beyond, examines different layers of the cultural history of Istanbul, based on the “remains” of civil architecture in Istanbul. With the extensive derelict buildings stock that it hosts in downtown, Istanbul has a silhouette that no other metropolis in the world can display. At the most historical and busy districts of the city, all of the architectural monuments, which conjure with their sculptural appearances the ghosts of the past cultural life, are properties that belong to the minorities of Istanbul. This work, instead of underlining the migration to the city, underlines the migration from the city which took place systematically during certain periods and the cultural drought, and represents the life style relating to the previous century by a ceremonial dining ritual. In the actual circumstances, this is more of an irony ceremony.
